Townsville Basketball launches high perfomance program
Townsville Basketball is excited to announce its new partnership with Pride Human Performance as it aims to establish itself as the premier Representative Program for basketball in Queensland.
Commencing with the 2021 Under 12 and Under 14 age groups the linkage with Pride Human Performance will be expanded to include all of its representative teams in the next cycle for each age group.
The program is included in the current fee structure paid by our representative athletes thanks to the generous support of Chris Doyle at Tropical Packaging who is partnering with Townsville Basketball to meet the financial costs of the program.
“PRIDE is really excited to be working with Basketball in Townsville. The vision they have for growth and development of the players and sport over the next five years is a real credit to them and to be part of that journey is a privilege” says Pride Human Performance Manager Jillian Joyce.
“PRIDE has a vision of seeing Townsville take its rightful place as a regional centre of sporting excellence, and we are confident what we will be rolling out with the Basketball Association is a really big step to making that vision a reality.”
“The relationship will encompass all we offer to compliment the amazing coaches who lead the programs. We are commencing with the rep teams and in time this will expand to encompass all levels in the entire association. From reducing injury and improving performance on court, through to mental resilience, team culture and life skills such as nutrition, these athletes are going to be operating in an age appropriate environment similar to that of an Institute of Sport.”
As part of the program the athletes and coaches will benefit from using the Sparta Science system to assist with strength and conditioning, performance, injury risk reduction, injury management and recovery analysis.
In addition to this the teams and coaching staff will have access to a suit of other services to support their teams in the form of psychology, nutrition and performance management consultancy aimed at the education of the athletes, coaches and parents of the athletes.
“We have identified over the past years that we need to continue developing the Townsville Basketball representative program to try and give us a competitive edge in the Basketball Queensland programs” said Townsville Basketball Player & Coach Development Officer Peter Crawford.
“The days of just depending on our volunteer coaches and on court talent to get results have passed and the partnership with Pride Human Performance is something we hope will take our athletes and our program to another level.”
“By implementing this program over a long period we hope to educate the athletes and parents about the development pathway required for players and teams to succeed as the intensity is increased through the years.”
The program will kick into full swing on Sunday 28th February with an induction day for all of the athletes including their initial testing as well as a series of workshops including a positive parenting workshop from Dr. Jo Lukins, author of “In The Grandstands” and “The Elite”.
